Dr Melissa Holowaty , at the Marmora Medical Centre, is currently part of the Central Hastings Family Health Team. She works with another family physician, Dr Anne Muscat, and through the family health team works with two nurse practitioners and one part-time registered nurse. Two social workers and a dietician are also available at this site.
Dr Holowaty is a graduate of the University of Toronto, where she completed a PhD in Molecular Virology in 2004, and an MD in 2008. She completed her family medicine training at the University of Toronto from the rural medicine residency program in January 2011. For more information on her research and publications, click here. She is an Associate Professor in Family Medicine at Queen's University and a teacher of medical students through the Eastern Rural Medicine Education Program. Although not associated with a hospital at this time, she offers full family medicine care including well woman, well child, office based procedures, prenatal care, and palliative medicine. She has special interests in chronic pain, addiction medicine, and palliative care. She prescribes suboxone for opiate addiction.
Dr Muscat completed her undergraduate degree in Human Kinetics and received a diploma in Sports Injury Management at the University of Guelph and Sheridan College in 2003. She worked as a Certified Athletic therpaist for two years prior to attending medical school. Dr Muscat completed her medical degree in 2009 at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Laurentian University. She then went on to train in family medicine with the University of Toronto. After her certification in family medicine, Dr Muscat completeda fellowship at McMaster University in Care of the Elderly.
